New Video! “The Tick Song” Lyme Disease Prevention!

September 2, 2018 in Children's Health Education, Music with Kids, The Singing Nurse Music

I know many of you are saying “Lyme Disease, Its September”?  I recently finished up a video of my song “The Tick Song” so I decided to do a little extra research as to the status of Lyme disease. Actually I wanted to have some back-up as to why I made this video at the end of summer instead of the beginning of spring. So if you think I’m late save this for your lessons in spring, but if you realize that we are still spending time outside read on.

Yes the CDC says the busiest time for ticks is spring through early fall.

It’s never too late or early to act in prevention to the bite of those pesky ticks and the diseases that they bring like Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis and Lyme disease. It is no picnic any time of year.

The Song says it all and the lessons help you teach it to your kids in a fun way. The Lyme Disease Prevention lesson for kids, tick graphics and color sheet, letters to parents and “The Tick Song” are all included and now you can share this fun & catchy video lyrics song with the kids, I promise they will astound you with what they remember.

Tick color sheets and graphic sample

Well it is true, the reports are coming in that Lyme and other Tick borne diseases will be higher than ever. We need to protect and teach our children lyme disease prevention. The tick cycle, the small acorn crop and the low count of mice may be some reasons for the increase of Lyme disease this year. Less mice means the ticks will be looking for other ways to feast and that means our children and us.

Ticks on a Stick!

A Re-post: Spring is here yippee! Please read our Lyme Disease prevention posts to help you get ready for the tick season. I really dislike ticks.

I prepared ticks on a stick for my visit to my grandson’s early learning center, Natural Wonders in Poughquag, NY. He really enjoys his class and my daughter in-law who is a Spec Ed teacher is very satisfied with the program.

I decided to make the ticks on a stick because I felt the children might be too young to participate in the full Tick Disease Prevention activities.

The adults raised the Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis and Lyme signs as the children raised their little ticks on a stick when we came to the words in the song, “Stay away from that Tick, He’ll make you feel sick…”. It worked great and the children were able to take the ticks, color them and share the information when they got home.

I also recommended that the teacher place a magnet on the back so the child could place it on their refrigerator and use it to fan themselves during the hot summer.

Lyme Disease Prevention Poster

This is a picture of my grandson and I at the end of our visit. We are posing in front of the poster I have been adding to as I educate children about Lyme Disease.

Before our session the children each made a thumb print on a small sticky note pad with their names and I added the legs and called them up one by one to place their little tick on the Lyme Disease Prevention Poster.

We had fun!

I also visited Acorn to Oaks, a quality early childhood program in Hopewell Juction NY on the same morning. It was good to see old friends and share with the children about Lyme Disease and how to protect ourselves from those pesky little eight legged ticks.

“Stay away from that tick, he’ll make you feel sick.”

Be Healthy, Ms. Dawn

Update:  Awwww, A Thank-You Poster from Natural Wonders-It is beautiful! Thanks…..I especially love the socks tucked in the pants pic.

Stay out of tall grass!

Lyme Disease Preventions for Kids

Disease carrying ticks are still with us. We are enjoying a longer season of warm weather, longer grass cutting season and the ticks are enjoying more time eating warm blooded meals from us and our children. We need to protect ourselves and our children and be more diligent than ever to prevent Lyme disease and other tick borne diseases.

We may think the ticks are gone for the season, think again. I was visiting with a friend today and one of those pesky little ticks was crawling on my face, yuck! I hear because of all the rain and moisture we are going to have more fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.

We wanted you to know about one of our favorites Lyme disease prevention resources. The 5th lesson plan in our new Nurse created health lessons book, “The Singing Nurse: Health Lessons for Kids”, is where you will find it.

The Lyme disease prevention unit includes a tick borne disease fact sheet and letters home to parents. The health lesson also integrates; creating props, letter recognition for young children, singing the catchy tune, “The Tick Song”, doing hand motions, and creating a multimedia presentation.

Lyrics to “The Tick Song” to listen click here

1) Your head may feel achy, your joints may feel shaky

And you may want to cry-wa, wa

2) So your body you check, make sure there’s no tick

Cuz you don’t want to cry-wa, wa

Don’t you get Ehrlichiosis (Ehrlichiosis)

Babesiosis (Babesiosis)

Ehrlichiosis or Babesiosis or Lyme

Break:  Stay out of tall grass (wear light colors)

In your socks tuck your pants (wear light colors)

When coming inside check your body every time.
